Emerging designer Katie Ermilio is best known for her classic, retro-inspired cocktail dresses, but for spring, she added sportier pieces like a baseball jacket and a sweatshirt in jersey-woven silk. “I’m infusing the collection with a little more youthful feel, but it’s still under the umbrella of what I do, which is luxurious sportswear and cocktail,” Ermilio told ELLE.com
As for her line’s bread and butter—those elegant peplum tops and full, floor-sweeping skirts—many for spring are done up in stripes. “I love stripes. I pretty much wear them every single day, so I designed the collection around them,” Ermilio explained. She also experimented with her first digital print this season, a combination of flower sketches she did of poppies and anemones.
Fresh off a just-launched collaboration with Anthropologie, Ermilio is in the midst of prepping a capsule collection exclusive to Barneys New York. “They ordered a bunch of archival pieces and silhouettes from different collections,” she said. “It will be on the sales floor in November, right before holiday.” Needless to say, she’s excited that her collection will be stocked in her favorite store. “We’re on the same floor as Celine, which I can’t even believe. It’s incredible. It doesn’t feel real.”
